Volontè (former Udc) sentenced to 4 years in prison for “bribes”
Former centrist deputy allegedly abused his office by receiving half a million euros from two political figures in Azerbaijan.
Luca Giuseppe Volonté, a former deputy and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, was sentenced in Milan to four years in prison for corruption. According to the indictment, he allegedly abused his office by receiving half a million euros from two Azerbaijani politicians, who were given the same sentence, in order to steer votes and obtain the rejection of a report on political prisoners in the Caucasian republic, to the benefit of the Azerbaijani government. The bribe, contested by prosecutors, was about 2.4 million euros, but judges acquitted the three for a substantial amount of the “cue,” amounting to more than 1.8 million euros.
